This Eco-luxury Brand Empowers People, Protects Animals, And the Planet

By Natalie Prolman

“We have a new story for the fashion world. This is more than fashion, it’s an awakening, a new way of doing business that empowers people and protects animals and the planet.” –Julian Prolman, Founder and President of The Ministry of Tomorrow

The Ministry of Tomorrow (MOT) is a luxury fashion brand that supports important environmental and social developments around the world. MOT designs bags and accessories and produces them in facilities that provide fair wage jobs in impoverished communities.

Responsible commerce is their way of doing business. Their products are produced with respect for the earth and humankind.

“We design and produce eco-luxury bags for a new audience of conscious consumers. Social, environmental and animal rights activism is at the core of our brand. Our bags are produced with respect for the earth and care for animals and the people who are involved at each step of the production,” said Julian Prolman.

Social and environmental activism is woven into the fabric of their products.

They closely examine the supply chain at each step of production and amp up the goodness associated with the raw materials that go into their products and for the people who make them.

They define luxury through a new expression of imaginative design that is elegant, distinctive and functional. Their fashion statement is: “Awe-inspiring works of art,” and their bags are hand-crafted by skilled artisans who are proudly devoted to producing one-of-a-kind, exceptional quality bags.

In addition to being ethically made, MOT’s flagship project is in Nairobi, Kenya just outside of Kibera - one of Africa’s largest slums.

This MOT-built facility sponsors professional artisan tailors who are recruited from within Kibera to make designer women’s and men’s bags, creating sustainable livelihoods for its employees. The employees at the factory are able to work in a safe, comfortable, and clean environment.

As their top priority, wherever possible, they use the highest quality sustainable eco materials that include: ANIMAL FREE leather from Italy and Japan, 100% certified organic and fair trade canvas from India, low impact dyes and recycled rubber padding.

The same eco-philosophy applies throughout the entire process (there are no chemicals used that harm the earth) including the ginning (cleaning the cotton), then spinning into yarn which is then woven or knitted into fabric. Even the dyeing process for colored fabrics utilizes low impact dyes that are approved for organic production.

Their customers can take comfort in knowing that every step of production in making their eco-luxury bags contributes to the creation of meaningful change all along the way.
