The Siaya Community Library is now a reality, having been successfully set up as a Community library in the town, with the generous support of the World Bank and Western Kenya. The library is now a landmark feature in the town and is gaining recognition for its activities and getting accolades from various circles for the noble way in which it is supporting the development of the education sector through the provision of a centre for educational resource for schools and colleges students, as well as a resource hub for lifelong learning for mature learners. It is the vision of the library management, to build the capacity of the Community library to strengthen it, in order to achieve full integration of library and information resource services, to cater for the community’s optimal utilization and sharing of library information resources and for information referral services.
The Siaya Community Library is seeking funding to undertake an expansion of the library facility into the envisioned Library Complex; that will consist of a storey library building going up 3 floors - to cater for the increasing and large number of users. The two-story building will host - the lower ground floor will host- Children Library , Then 1st floor will host conference hall, The second floor will play host of an ICT Hub or ICT room -consisting an Information & Communication Technology (ICT) research area having 100 computers with online connection linked to the major peer reviewed journal host links. The building will have toilets and lavatories located within each floor. Alongside the library building constituting the Library complex, is a two storey building that will host the Computer training lab having 20 computers for training, a Board room and offices.
This facility expansion should commence immediately funds are available within this year 2017.
